What is Cancer?

Cancer is a leading cause of death among adults in the United States. In 2007, there were 9,030 new diagnosis of cancer made in Nebraska. Advancements in screening, diagnosis, and treatment present today’s cancer patients with many more options than were available in the past. The increasing number of options and resources that increase the survivability of cancer can be overwhelming for patients and families. The purpose of Nebraska’s Cancer Resource Corners is to provide patients and their caregivers access to accurate, current information from the communities where they live. The Resource Corners help to meet the National Cancer Institute Community Cancer Center Program’s goal of expanding cancer research and delivering the latest, most advanced cancer care and information from prevention, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship to more Americans in their home communities.
